About Me

My name is Gwendolyn Annette Perkins Duncan.  I am a wife of one, mother of five: two sons and three daughters, grandmother of two lovely grand daughters, and  two wonderful daughter-in-laws.

I am the second oldest of eight sisters: the oldest now deceased.  I am a 5th generation native of Lincolnville, St. Augustine, FL: the Nation's oldest city, having lived there 47/55 years. My great great grand parents lived in St. Johns County.  My great grandmother was a founder of the St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church in Lincolnville.

I attended the following local schools:  Excelsior Elementary, Orange St., Ketterlinus Junior High, and graduated in 1974 from St. Augustine High School.  I also graduated from St. Johns River Community College with an AA Degree.

I was a housewife for 14 years, then went back to work after my baby girl entered kindergarten.  I've held occupations as a Secretary, Cashier,  Librarian Assistant, Substitute Teacher, Teacher's Aide, Para-professional Aide, and Drug Prevention Specialist.  I am an eight year President of a non-profit organization called The 40th ACCORD, Inc.  Our mission is to remember, recognize, and honor, all those who risked their lives to attain civil rights for all and celebrate St. Augustine's pivotal role in the passage of the Landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964.  I am also the Secretary/Treasurer of my church.

I was filled with the Holy Ghost on February 10, 1976 and baptized in the wonderful Name of Jesus Christ, in the Atlantic Ocean, on February 11th, 1976.  This changed the course of my ife forever.  I am a born-again Christian.

Our organization has sponsored many activities to bring honor and recognition to the many Heroes and Sheroes of the St. Augustine Civil Rights Movement led by Dr. Robert B. Hayling, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.  Our organization, through the generosity of the Northrop Grumman Corporation has sponsored the Freedom Trail of Historic Civil Rights Sites, in and around the City and County of St. Johns, FL.

Our ultimate goal is to assist Chairman Richard P. Burton, Sr. in bringing to fruition a Civil Rights Museum to the Nation's Oldest City.  If one would like to know more about The 40th ACCORD, Inc., please visit our website at
